Karen Lundquist is the Executive Director of the United Way of the Tanana Valley.  The United Way helps to collect and distribute charitable donations to many of our most notable charities locally, and they have a diverse array of local volunteers to help with this work.

The United Way have operated here in Fairbanks since 1956.  The benefits to our community go far beyond the collection and distribution of money to worthy causes.  There are a great many volunteers in our community who work together to make Fairbanks a better place to live for everyone.  The United Way helps them coordinate their efforts and make an even greater positive effect on our quality of life.

In 2007 alone, the United Way of the Tanana Valley allocated over $600,000 to its 24 member agencies in Fairbanks: ACCA, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Eielson AFB Child Development Center, Fairbanks Counseling and Adoption, Ft. Wainright Child & Youth Services, Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living, North Star Youth Court, Salvation Army Corps Community Center, Access Alaska, Boy Scouts Council (Midnight Sun), Eielson AFB Youth Center, Fairbanks Resource Agency, Girl Scouts (Farthest North Council), Literacy Council of Alaska, Presbyterian Hospitality House, American Red Cross, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tanana Valley, Fairbanks Community Food Bank, Ft. Wainright Army Community Service, Hospice of the Tanana Valley, National Senior Service Corps, and the Resource Center for Parents and Children.  Stop and think about how much all those disparate groups do, as a group, for our community.

In addition to these member agencies, there are a variety of other programs and causes that the United Way of the Tanana Valley helps to support locally and around the state.  Suffice to say, the organization that Karen Lundquist does an extraordinary amount of good, and we thank her for taking the time to speak with us about the organization and its efforts on behalf of so many others.
